Grant Thornton names Cristina Muñoz as cybersecurity partner

Grant Thornton has announced the appointment of Cristina Muñoz-Aycuens as its new Partner in Cybersecurity and Forensic, entrusting her with the development of a comprehensive cybersecurity service offering tailored to the challenges facing Spanish companies across all sectors and sizes.

Muñoz-Aycuens will spearhead a new division designed to provide end-to-end cybersecurity services, with a strategic focus on prevention, detection, and response to cyberattacks. Her leadership will span capabilities such as system protection (Blue Team), real-world attack simulations to identify vulnerabilities (Red Team), and incident management and resolution through a specialized Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) team. This will be complemented by robust regulatory compliance support (GRC), aligned with the evolving cybersecurity frameworks in Spain and the EU.

A key differentiator of Grant Thornton’s renewed cybersecurity strategy is its focus on client training and awareness. By empowering companies to become proactive agents of their own defense, the firm aims to promote a culture of cyber resilience—anticipating threats rather than merely reacting to them.

Strengthening Forensic Capabilities

In parallel, Muñoz-Aycuens will continue to lead within the firm’s Forensic practice, now as Partner. Over the past decade, she has been at the forefront of complex corporate and institutional fraud investigations, contributing deep expertise in digital forensics. Widely recognized as a leading expert witness in high-profile legal disputes, she has played a pivotal role in high-stakes cases covered extensively in the media.

Cristina is also the founder of Grant Thornton’s Digital Forensics Lab, which has supported hundreds of companies in identifying, preserving, and analyzing electronic evidence in contexts ranging from litigation and internal audits to regulatory probes. Under her guidance, the team delivers a full forensic lifecycle—from data recovery and device analysis to expert reports and courtroom support—providing a holistic approach to safeguarding corporate interests.

“We want Spanish businesses to be as prepared as possible for the cyberattack epidemic they are currently facing. 96% of organizations have already been targeted, and the remaining 4% are likely unaware they’ve been compromised. Spanish companies are the most threatened in Europe and the third most at risk globally. Our goal is to deliver a truly comprehensive solution that secures their entire value chain,” said Cristina Muñoz-Aycuens.

Fernando Beltrán, Managing Partner of Financial Advisory—which oversees both Forensic and Cybersecurity—added: “Cristina is one of the most accomplished professionals in the field of forensic investigation. Our ambition is to become a cybersecurity leader, and having her lead this initiative is a guaranteed step in that direction.”

Cristina Muñoz-Aycuens brings nearly two decades of experience in cybersecurity and digital forensics. Her career began in 2005 with systems audits and data protection, followed by the launch of the Information Security Unit at Grupo Eulen in 2008. Before joining Grant Thornton’s Forensic practice in 2014, she led compliance and IT audit projects at KPMG for major clients.

Recognized as a Future Leader in WWL Investigations and named among the Top 100 Women Leaders in Spain, Cristina combines her professional work with teaching in cybersecurity and compliance master’s programs and speaking at leading industry forums.
