Garrigues opens Beijing office

Garrigues has opened an office in Beijing headed by partner Manuel Torres.

It is the firm’s second office in China – it already has an operation in Shanghai – and means that it now has more than 20 lawyers in the country.

The Beijing office is located in the China World Trade Centre and will offer corporate, labour, IP and tax law services.

Torres’ expertise includes advising foreign investors on doing business in China, including the structuring and reorganisation of foreign investment enterprises. He also specialises in M&A involving SOEs (state-owned enterprises).

A Garrigues statement said: “The new office will offer quicker and more efficient service to clients located in and around Beijing, and will promote new business opportunities with large international companies whose interests lie in the Chinese capital.”

The statement continued: “One of the greatest advantages offered by Garrigues in China lies in its role as a gateway through which Chinese traders can enter the Latin American market, in which Garrigues offices in Colombia, Mexico, Peru and an international law office in Brazil.”
