Francisco Soares Machado is the new partner at Sérvulo
Sérvulo & Associados has just hired Francisco Soares Machado as a partner in the financial & governance department. Transiting from Cuatrecasas, Machado has more than 15 years’ experience in advising financial institutions. He also advises on operations such as bank restructurings and M&A in the sector, as well as on capital markets matters.
Before joining Cuatrecasas, seven years ago, he served as adviser to the vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg between 2015 and 2018. He was also deputy to the Minister of State and Finance in Portugal’s XIX Constitutional Government between 2012 and 2015, working on matters of financial stability and banking regulation, particularly the processes of recapitalisation and restructuring of the Portuguese banking sector, as well as the revision of the regulatory framework applicable to the financial sector. He was also a member of the Legal Committee of the Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance and is currently a member of the Governance Lab think tank.
Francisco Soares Machado graduated in Law in 2008 from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and holds an LLM in Corporate/Commercial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a postgraduate degree in Securities Law from the University of Lisbon. He completed Level I of the CFA exam and is registered, in addition to the Portuguese Bar Association, with the Law Society of England and Wales as a solicitor. He is a guest lecturer on banking and investment services in postgraduate programmes and intensive courses at the University of Lisbon, and is also a trainer at the Banking Training Institute.
“The addition of Francisco Soares Machado will enhance, for the benefit of our clients, unique synergies in regulatory and transactional work, enabling us to ensure a strong response capacity across all areas of the financial sector, particularly banking and capital markets”, says Manuel Magalhães, managing partner and partner responsible for the financial & governance department at Sérvulo.
