EY Law hires new partner and strengthens core areas
EY Law Portugal has hired three professionals in core practice areas. In banking and insurance, the arrival of Miguel Cordeiro (partner), Elisa Seara Vaz (senior manager), and Marta Calé Gaspar (manager) — all joining from Deloitte Legal — brings experience in financial regulation, insurance, collective investment undertakings (CIUs), fintech, and compliance.
The strengthening also extends to public law, urban planning, and data protection, with the integration of Joana Mata and Valeria Polska, both joining from RSA as associates. They bring expertise in areas such as energy and environmental licensing, public procurement, urban planning, and data protection, including GDPR audits and incident management.
In the field of digital law and emerging technologies, Inês Bragança Gaspar, formerly at Antas da Cunha Ecija and a specialist in Web3, blockchain, and tech regulation, joins the team, along with Maria Luís Ferreira, who joins the asset management/CIU team from Lynx Asset Managers – both as associates.
“These hires are aligned with EY Law’s strategic vision of offering integrated legal solutions alongside the firm’s Consulting, Strategy & Transactions, and Tax areas, ensuring a transversal and innovative approach that creates value for clients and enhances synergies within EY”, states the law firm. The new team will also begin offering comprehensive services in trademark, patent, and copyright registration, protection, and management, in line with innovation and intangible asset valuation strategies.
“We are excited about these hires, which were carefully planned to ensure alignment with EY Law’s culture and to strengthen our ability to deliver legal services in core areas within the EY ecosystem. Balancing talent and culture has been our guiding principle, allowing us to reinforce our value proposition and meet our clients’ challenges with complete and innovative solutions,” says João Nóbrega, managing partner of EY Law Portugal.
He adds: “Our strategy is to consolidate EY’s leadership position in the multidisciplinary services we offer our clients — building a better working world and helping organisations shape the future with confidence.”
In the next semester, EY Law plans further hires, including dedicated teams for energy, infrastructure, and project finance, reinforcing its goal of leading the transformation of the legal sector in Portugal.
