EY Insights remarks Spain’s Role in European Strategic Autonomy
EY Insights has released a new report, “La Empresa Española ante la Autonomía Estratégica Europea”, which outlines key national priorities to effectively implement Europe’s emerging strategic autonomy framework. The report provides an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing Spanish businesses within the evolving geopolitical and economic landscape of Europe.
During the report’s launch, Spain’s Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, emphasized that Spanish businesses are well-positioned to lead and enhance their competitiveness on the global stage, aligning with European identity. Marta Blanco from CEOE added that companies must have optimal conditions for international market access and a geographically diverse supply chain to boost resilience.
Federico Linares, President of EY Spain, highlighted the importance of adapting corporate strategies to this new international reality, noting opportunities in new markets and support through initiatives like Global Gateway and NextGenerationEU. Josep Borrell, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, stressed that strategic autonomy is a chance to address existing imbalances and strengthen trade relations, ensuring Europe’s economic prosperity and competitiveness.
The report also highlights Europe’s vulnerabilities exposed by recent global events, including the COVID-19 pandemic and energy crisis, and suggests steps such as boosting domestic production and diversifying supply chains to mitigate risks.
For Spain, the report underscores the importance of adapting strategies to global shifts, recommending the creation of an Economic Security Council and a more integrated innovation policy to seize new opportunities.
