Escalona & de Fuentes appoints Fernando Calbacho as of counsel

Escalona & de Fuentes has appointed Fernando Calbacho, previously a partner at Uría Menéndez, as of counsel to strengthen its commercial and real estate law departments.

“The addition of Fernando Calbacho is a natural step in our growth strategy in key areas such as commercial and real estate law, where his experience and knowledge of the market will bring immediate value to our clients,” said Joaquín de Fuentes Bardají and José Antonio Escalona, co-managing partners of the firm.

With almost 40 years of experience, Fernando Calbacho has been a partner at Uría Menéndez, where he headed the New York office between 2002 and 2005. Prior to that, he held various positions of responsibility in the legal departments of leading companies (solicitor at Grupo Ercros, director of legal affairs at Fertiberia, legal director at Repsol and general secretary at Agroman).

His professional practice focuses on commercial law, particularly company acquisitions, real estate transactions and debt restructuring processes, and he also has extensive experience in corporate law and corporate governance.

For his part, Fernando Calbacho states that he joins Escalona & de Fuentes “with great enthusiasm, attracted by the professional respect I have for José Antonio and Joaquín and for other lawyers at the firm whom I have known for many years, and by its model of an independent firm and its technical excellence in serving its clients.”
