Empowering Lawyers 2024

Today, May 9, 2024, the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel, located at Rua De Cervantes 169, Porto, will witness the event “Empowering Lawyers: Unlocking the Power of Business Language” organized by Iberian Lawyer in collaboration with Mercan Group; and with the support of ACC Europe.

The first session, entitled “In-house and External Lawyers as Risk Managers“, will address the crucial role that lawyers play in risk management within organizations. Leading professionals, such as Filipe Avides Moreira, partner at PLMJ, Sara Barbot, head of legal at BA Glass and Fábio Castro Russo, partner at Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados, Mariana da Silva Oliveira, corporate legal manager at Mercan Properties, Isabel Fernandes, general legal counsel at Grupo Visabeira and Bernando Novo, CEO of SC Fitness. All will share their knowledge and experiences. Under the expert moderation of Bárbara de Eliseu, Lawyer Coach at Bárbara Eliseu Coach, this session is expected to foster insightful discussions on how to address risk management challenges in different business sectors.

After a short break, the second session, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Impact on the External Counsel/In-house Relationship,” will begin, exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming the relationship between in-house and external legal counsel. Leading experts, such as Vanda Cascao, partner at VdA Vieira de Almeida, Pedro Gomes da Cunha, head of legal at Bright Pixel Capital / Sonae IM, Hugo Nunes, partner at Cuatrecasas, Alexandra Reis, senior counsel PT at Tabaqueira/ Philip Morris International and Jordi Villanova, president of Mercan Properties. The lawyers will share their knowledge on this constantly evolving topic. Moderated by Julia Gil, Journalist at Iberian Lawyer and Financecommunity.es, this session promises to offer an in-depth look at how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of legal advice.

To conclude the day in a more relaxed atmosphere, a cocktail reception will be offered, giving participants the opportunity to continue the conversations, make meaningful connections and reflect on the topics discussed during the event.
