Ecija launches legal operations practice with new team
Ecija has launched a new legal operations team, conceived as a structural lever to transform the legal function and align it with business priorities. The initiative is part of Ecija Tech, a globally scoped practice serving clients across multiple jurisdictions, and aims to strengthen the firm’s ability to deliver transformation projects from start to finish.
The new team comes from PwC Tax & Legal, and is led by Rocío Catalá. The new team also includes Sara de Pablo, joining as principal of the area, and Marta de Arespacochaga as associate. According ot Ecija, they bring” extensive experience in end-to-end transformation projects for legal departments of large national and international companies, combining operational diagnostics, process redesign, KPI definition, technology implementation, automation, and change management.”
The legal operations practice is designed to meet the new demands of legal departments: cost pressure, the need to standardize and scale operations, greater traceability, and accelerated technology adoption, states Ecija. All of this is approached practically, with a focus on impact and the ability to execute in multi-jurisdictional contexts.
This addition also comes within the framework of the division’s recent restructuring, which included the acquisition of Nimerya, a consultancy specializing in digital transformation, and led to a new technology structure built around three pillars: legaltech, digital services, and crypto. These pillars will operate in a coordinated manner, maintaining their own identity while sharing a unified vision, giving Ecija a differentiated value proposition in the legal and technology market.
In the words of Alejandro Touriño, managing partner at Ecija: “Legal departments are undergoing a profound transformation. Excellent technical advice is no longer enough: it is essential to help design and execute operational models that are more efficient, technology-driven, and scalable. With the launch of the Legal Operations area, we reinforce one of the key components of our model as a firm.”
Rocío Catalá adds: “We are thrilled to join ECIJA and be part of a leading firm in legal transformation. Through Legal Operations, we aim to contribute to a global proposition that combines strategy, operations, and technology to help legal departments evolve their models with real and sustainable business impact.”
