Dentons launches AI-powered contract automation bot

Dentons drives contract automation with generative AI: The firm trains an AI model to automate templates in Contract Express, allowing it to generate documents with a single command. The bot, developed to understand the coding language of this platform, streamlines contract processes and is being tested in Europe by a team led by Luis Belart in Spain, together with Mar Sánchez-Contador and Icíar Pérez-Puente.

For his part, Luis Belart, partner of the financial area in Dentons Spain and promoter of the pilot in Europe, assures that “corporate venturing and the vanguard in the provision of legal services is part of the Dentons DNA”. “Since the creation of Nextlaw Labs (our legal venture investment platform), we have always been committed to offering innovative solutions that benefit our clients. The incorporation of this tool will allow us to accompany our professionals, enabling them to address strategic and complex aspects, powered by cutting-edge technology that improves efficiency without compromising the value we provide in each transaction,” concludes

AI-powered contract automation bot

The firm has trained LLM (Large Language Model, a text recognition and generation AI program) to understand the coding language of Contract Express (a contracting platform that helps lawyers optimize and speed up contract generation and completion processes), creating a bot that can automate the generation of coded templates with a single command.

Document automation

Specifically, this group of lawyers has access to the prototype so that they can automate documents on their own without programming skills or technical knowledge and with minimal training. Thus, using a single command, the bot generates a coded template that is compatible with Contract Express, which in turn produces a formatted first draft and provides suggested questions. The result should then be exported to Word for the lawyer to review and quality control.

Břetislav Šimral, Director of Innovation and Intelligence at Dentons explains that “to enable Contract Express to automate documents, it is first necessary to create the template, something that, traditionally done by a member of our staff, could take up to one or two days to create.” Thus, he adds, “by combining Contract Express with the AI capabilities of our new bot, we can decentralize document creation and allow any lawyer to create templates in a matter of minutes.”

While the current bot is designed for use with Contract Express, Dentons will examine how to apply a similar concept to other platforms.
