Cuatrecasas appoints Fontana as president

Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira has appointed Rafael Fontana as the firm’s president.

Fontana – currently managing partner – succeeds Emilio Cuatrecasas, who has been president of the firm for the last 34 years.

A spokesman for the firm said Fontana would keep the executive powers he has held as managing partner. He added that Fontana would combine the two roles and that the firm had no plans to appoint a new managing partner.

“There is no forecast to choose a new managing partner under this board of directors mandate,” the spokesman said.

Fontana said: “Emilio is a clear example of leadership. Now it is our turn to continue his excellent work to ensure future developments.”

Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira has 25 offices in 11 countries. It has 202 partners and 962 lawyers.

The firm’s 2013 revenue was €248 million.

Fontana is recognised as an expert in tax – particularly in relation to tax planning for family businesses – and mergers and acquisitions.
