Cuatrecasas advises Exus Renewables on solar park acquisition

Cuatrecasas in Portugal provided legal advisory services to Exus Renewables, a leading renewable energy company, in the acquisition of the Cibele solar park in Rio Maior and Cadaval, Portugal, from Lightsource BP, a global leader in the development and management of large-scale onshore renewable energy projects. With a planned capacity of 130 megawatts (MW) of solar power and an additional 100MW of wind capacity, the Cibele solar park will bolster Exus’s renewable energy assets under development in the Iberian Peninsula.

Exus anticipates starting construction in the coming months and expects the infrastructure to be operational by 2026. The strategic location of the solar park may later support the addition of a wind installation. In Portugal, the company is currently developing 200 MW of wind and solar assets, with 70 MW under construction and 130 MW already operational. Across Europe, Exus manages over 6 GW of renewable energy assets.

The Cuatrecasas legal advisory team, led by Francisco Santos Costa, partner from the corporate and M&A department, also included associates Miguel Lencastre Monteiro, Carolina Nogueira Martins, and Piedade Pidwell Calheiros from the same department, as well as partner Sara Quaresma, and associates Daniela de Oliveira Colaço and Sofia Rosário from the real estate and urban planning department. “This transaction not only reinforces our commitment to supporting green initiatives but also reflects our expertise in managing complex renewable energy projects”, emphasized Francisco Santos Costa.
