CNMV appoints Juan Rodríguez de la Rúa Puig as new GC
The Spanish Securities Market Commission (CNMV) has appointed Juan Rodríguez de la Rúa Puig as its new General Counsel and Board Secretary, effective September 1st, 2025.
Rodríguez de la Rúa has been serving as Deputy General Counsel and Deputy Board Secretary since joining the CNMV in 2022. He succeeds Patricia Muñoz González-Úbeda, who has held the position since May 2021.
An Abogado del Estado (State Attorney), Rodríguez de la Rúa previously worked at the General State Attorney’s Office – Subdirectorate for EU and International Affairs, where he advised public institutions on European Union law and represented Spain before both the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Court.
He also coordinated the legal assistance agreement between the General State Attorney’s Office and the state-owned company SAECA (Sociedad Anónima Estatal de Caución Agraria). Earlier in his career, he served as a State Attorney in Valencia, in the criminal department of the State Litigation Services, and before the High Court of Justice of Madrid.
With his appointment, the CNMV reinforces its commitment to strong legal governance and international representation at the highest institutional level.
