Clifford Chance advises European Super League

A Clifford Chance Madrid based team of lawyers, has advised the European Super League promoters on the Legal aspects of the project

pjimage 2021 08 02T093512.853The advice from Clifford Chance included the foundational agreements, the financing committed in respect of the project for an amount of approximately €4 billion, Antitrust, Regulatory matters and the Legal actions initiated vis-à-vis FIFA and UEFA.

The multidisciplinary team was led by partner Luis Alonso (pictured), head of the Spanish Corporate/M&A practice and supported by senior associate Pablo Murcia, Global Financial Markets partner Eduardo García, partner Fernando Irurzun, senior associate Fernando Giménez-Alvear, partner Miguel Odriozola and senior associate Belén Irissarry. On Regulatory aspects of the project, the team counted on partner Jaime Almenar.

The Clifford Chance team was also supported by the independent Belgium attorneys Jean-Louis Dupont and Martin Hissel.

The European Super League (ESL), officially The Super League, is a proposed annual club football competition. It is organised by the European Super League Company, S.L., a commercial enterprise created to rival or replace the UEFA Champions League.
