Celebrating two decades of legal journalism: Iberian Lawyer turns 20
On 7 July, Iberian Legal Group, the editorial powerhouse behind Iberian Lawyer and The Latin American Lawyer, celebrates its twentieth anniversary. Over the past two decades, the group has cultivated a distinctive voice in legal journalism across Spain, Portugal and Latin America.
Founded in 2005, Iberian Lawyer was launched with a clear mission: to provide incisive, independent coverage of business law and the legal profession across the Iberian Peninsula. From its earliest editions, the magazine has featured in‑depth interviews, rankings, insights and analysis, earning the trust of law firm leaders, general counsel, policymakers and academics.
A pivotal moment came in January 2019, when LC Publishing Group acquired a majority stake in the company. The strategic transaction brought together two leading legal media houses, creating the largest specialist legal publishing group in Southern Europe and Latin America. The acquisition laid the groundwork for synergies across digital platforms, events and conferences, while reinforcing Iberian Lawyer’s commitment to high-quality legal journalism.
Following the acquisition, Iberian Lawyer expanded both its format and its reach. In April 2019, it was relaunched as a free monthly digital magazine, published in both English and Spanish, enhancing its accessibility and engagement through social media. Meanwhile, Iberian Legal Group has continued to host its flagship events and awards, including the Forty Under 40, Inspiralaw, the Gold Awards, and sector-specific recognitions — further cementing its standing within the legal community.
In recent years, the legal profession has faced seismic shifts: digital transformation, ESG compliance, artificial intelligence, and increasingly complex cross-border matters. Iberian Legal Group has responded by strengthening its editorial coverage, diversifying its formats and deepening its digital presence — all while remaining true to its founding values of journalistic rigour, professionalism and independence.
“Iberian Lawyer has represented, for LC Publishing Group, the first real step toward internationalization and the flagship publication—as well as the “older sister,” given its 20-year history—of a series of editorial initiatives that have made us a group with a presence not only in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America (through the brands Iberian Lawyer and The Latin American Lawyer), but also in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and the MENA region, with the brands legalcommunity.it, legalcommunity.ch, legalcommunitygermany.com, and legalcommunitymena.com”— says Aldo Scaringella, CEO of LC Publishing Group and Iberian Legal Group.— “For almost two years now, we have also positioned ourselves as a reference point for industry news in Spain through financecommunity.es, the twin of the Italian portal financecommunity.it. We continue to move forward, always looking for new sectors in which to grow, with Madrid at the center of the group’s investments”.
As the group embarks on its third decade, it does so with confidence — grounded in its legacy, attuned to the evolving legal landscape, and driven by a continued commitment to the communities it serves.
Twenty years on, the mission continues — and the story is far from over.
