C-S Abogados closes a deal with Biogas Peninsular for the construction of 64 biogas and biomethane plants

The firm C-S Abogados y Economistas has closed a deal between a developer group, Biogas Peninsular, and a Private Equity firm specialising in the renewable energy sector for the development of 64 biomethane plants.

The deal, a combination of equity and project finance, is part of the European Union’s InvestEU programme, a European funding programme for sustainable infrastructure investments to support the ecological transition as part of each member state’s recovery and resilience plans.

The agreement, aimed at promoting and building a total of 64 biogas and biomethane plants in Spain, is part of a growing sector that enables the recovery of waste and brings the country one step closer to the ecological transition and the circular economy.

“The objective of this agreement is the development of technologies that allow the generation of biomethane from an adequate treatment of all types of waste, achieving its recovery and practical disposal. According to the Institute for Energy Development and Saving (IDAE), in the circular economy, biogas displaces raw materials of fossil origin and, therefore, has a relevant role in the energy transition”, Sanromá points out.

C-S Abogados has provided legal advice on commercial, corporate and contracting aspects, providing support to the managers and promoters of the project. The next challenge, says Sanromá, is to move forward with the environmental assessments and all the administrative procedures for each plant, which “will lead us to different scenarios and deadlines in each territory, despite the undoubted general interest of these facilities”.

David Sanromá-Sardá Vázquez, Partner at C-S Abogados has led the operation, with te support of Francisco García Gómez de Mercado, founder and managing partner from Gómez de Mercado Abogados.
