Burford Capital hires Teresa Gutiérrez reinforcing presence in Spain

Burford Capital, on of the largest litigation and arbitration finance firm, has made its first recruitment in Spain with the appointment of Teresa Gutiérrez Chacón as Senior Vice President. Based in Madrid, Gutiérrez Chacón will focus on strengthening Burford’s positioning as a partner for law firms and corporate clients in the Spanish market.

This strategic hire reflects Burford’s ongoing efforts to support clients across key European jurisdictions, responding to growing demand for alternative legal financing solutions in Spain and throughout Europe.

Gutiérrez Chacón brings over 16 years of experience in complex dispute resolution, international arbitration, and legal strategy for multi-million-dollar cases. She joins Burford from Pavilion Energy, where she served as Head of Legal for Europe’s trading business. Her previous roles include positions at leading law firms such as Freshfields and Gómez-Acebo & Pombo. In addition to her professional practice, she teaches at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Burford’s expansion into Spain comes amid rising interest from companies in alternative funding options to pursue claims without compromising liquidity. With offices in London and teams in five other European countries, Burford, led in Europe by Philipp Leibfried, aims to combine local expertise in Spain with its multi-jurisdictional experience.
