Birketts hires Alastair Gunn and Álvaro Aznar

UK firm Birketts has appointed Alastair Gunn and Álvaro Aznar Azcárate (pictured) as partners, both joining from Buckles Law. The appointments come as Birketts pursues international expansion. The firm operates seven offices across the UK and ranks among the country’s top 50 law firms. Birketts employs over 700 professionals, including 150 partners, and generates revenues of £140 million.

The lawyers

Gunn joins as a corporate partner with extensive experience in M&A and corporate advisory work for companies and families in the UK and internationally. He advises a significant number of Spanish-speaking clients in England and serves as a reference point for Spanish law firms requiring English commercial law advice.

Aznar Azcárate, qualified as both an English solicitor and Spanish abogado (ICAM), specializes in international succession law. He advises families and companies on succession planning in the UK and handles international estates for clients in England. Aznar chairs the British Spanish Law Association (BSLA) and previously chaired STEP’s Cross Border Estates Special Interest Group.
