BALDER opens new office in Santander led by Elena Alonso

BALDER, a firm specialized in Intellectual Property, Patents, and Trademarks, has opened a new office in Santander as part of its strategic expansion across northern Spain. This new office adds to BALDER’s long-standing presence in Bilbao, where the firm has operated since its foundation in 2012.

Founded with a team of nine professionals, the firm has grown steadily over the past decade, reaching revenues of €27.5 million in 2024—an 11.6% increase compared to the previous year. Today, the firm employs 105 professionals, including 10 partners and 15 associates.

The Santander office will be led by Elena Alonso, a telecommunications engineer and European Patent Attorney with over 24 years of experience in Intellectual Property. Her expertise spans telecommunications, optical communications, data networks, semiconductors, and innovations based on software, mathematical models, and artificial intelligence.

According to Alonso, “The opening of our new office in Santander responds to the growing demand for close, personalized technical-legal advice in protecting high-value technological innovations.”

With this move, the law firm becomes the first specialized Intellectual Property firm in Santander with a European Patent Attorney on site—marking a milestone for the region. The expansion strengthens its geographic footprint in northern Spain and enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive, high-quality services in European patent protection, positioning Santander as a hub for innovative companies.

In Spain, the firm operates offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and now Santander, while in Latin America it is present in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina.
