Baker McKenzie has appointed Carlos Jiménez Laiglesia, Bruno Keusses, Paula Talavera and Marc Cucarella as new partners in Corporate / M&A and Capital Markets, Tax and Employment, respectively, following a long and successful career with the firm in Spain, effective 1 July.
Rodrigo Ogea and Bruno Domínguez, co-managing partners of Baker McKenzie in Spain, said that these appointments ‘are due to the proven success of our strategy in the Spanish market and reflect the important contribution of these lawyers to the development of core practice areas of our firm. Their talent, dedication and commitment to Baker McKenzie’s values have been decisive for their appointment. We continue to be committed to strengthening our in-house talent and expanding our teams with exceptional professionals’.
Carlos Jiménez Laiglesia
Jiménez de Laiglesia joined Baker McKenzie’s Corporate M&A practice in 2013 and has 14 years of experience in advising on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, and advising listed companies – IPOs, public-to-private transactions and corporate restructurings, as well as private equity transactions. Carlos also has extensive experience in corporate governance matters in both listed and unlisted companies.
Bruno Keusses
Keusses joined Baker McKenzie’s Tax practice in 2013, where he has developed his entire career and has more than 11 years of experience advising large companies, family groups and funds on mergers, acquisitions and reorganisations. His practice also includes wealth planning, fund structuring (private equity and real estate) and financing transactions.
Paula Talavera
Talavera joined Baker McKenzie’s Employment practice in 2006. She mainly advises multinational companies in the technology sector on their day-to-day operations, including global project management, interaction with trade unions and collective bargaining and participation in complex, high value-added litigation matters. Paula also has extensive experience in diversity issues, particularly gender gaps and equality plans. She is a regular contributor to specialised media and also teaches at different universities.
Marc Cucarella
Cucarella has 14 years of professional experience, having joined Baker McKenzie in 2014. Marc has focused his practice on advising both national and international clients, with special dedication in strategic sectors such as technology, healthcare and retail, where his experience in high value-added and complex matters such as individual and collective restructuring plans, negotiations with trade unions and social partners and assistance in litigation proceedings of special relevance stands out. He is also a member of the firm’s internal Reorganisations, Compliance and ESG industry groups, actively leading international projects in these areas. Cucarella complements his professional activity with his position as an associate professor at ESADE and his regular participation as a speaker at various organisations and business schools.
New partners at global level
The appointment of four new partners in Spain is included in the promotion of 66 new partners globally with effect from 1 July 2024 (with the exception of partners based in North America and some locations in Latin America, whose promotions came into effect on 1 January 2024). Considering the 48 partners from other firms that joined during the year, the firm has added a total of 114 partners globally since 1 July 2023. The majority of the other firm additions have been in transactional practices, strengthening the firm’s ability to advise clients on cross-border transactions.
Milton Cheng, Chairman of Baker McKenzie, expressed his sincere congratulations to all the lawyers and noted that their promotion ‘coincides with our Firm’s 75th anniversary’. Cheng added that the new partners’ dedication to clients “has been instrumental in driving the success of our Firm and we look forward to their continued contribution in the years to come”. Cheng also emphasised that this year has been particularly remarkable ‘thanks to the significant number of women who have joined our new partner ranks. As we celebrate this achievement, we also remain focused on our continued commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.’
