Ashurst recruits banking partner from Cuatrecasas

Ashurst has recruited Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira banking partner Fernando Navarro.

Navarro´s expertise includes advising private and public entities on financing deals, including syndicated and bilateral loans and the issue of debt instruments. He joined Cuatrecasas in 2003.

Navarro will co-head Ashurst’s banking and finance team with Jose Christian Bertram.

Prior to joining Cuatrecasas, Navarro worked in-house at Grupo Ahorro Corporacion and Santander.

Ashurst Spain managing partner Eduardo Gracia said:  “It is our goal to have the best teams in all areas in order to maintain our commitment to our customers to provide a high added value service. Our banking and finance department is well established and Fernando, as one of the few lawyers in our country with a long history in banking and an international profile, will provide the necessary path for keeping our practice as a reference in the Spanish market.”

Navarro added: “After many years in a large office at Cuatrecasas, to join an international firm of Ashurst’s size and trajectory to co-head one of its practice areas is important as banking and financial law is a great opportunity, especially considering the increasing globalisation of markets.”

In July this year, Ashurst banking partner Juan Hormaechea left the firm to join Allen & Overy´s Madrid office.

Ashurst´s Madrid office posted revenues of €23.3m in 2014, an increase of 8 per cent on the previous year.
