Ashurst opens office in Korea

Ashurst has opened a new office in Korea, Ashurst Korea JV, becoming the first global firm authorised to practice korean law since the opening of the legal market in 2011.

It is a joint venture, approved by the Korean Ministry of Justice on 29 november 2022, with HwaHyun and signals the firm’s intentions to grow in Asia.

HwaHyun is a law firm specialised in corporate law, intellectual property and technology, and dispute resolution, led by co-managing partners Kyung-Shik Shin and Nak Song Sung Song.

Kyung-Shik Shin, a civil servant for 27 years, also served as chief prosecutor of the Suwon District Public Prosecutor’s Office. Nak Song Sung has been a judge for more than 30 years.

“This joint venture reflects our ambitions for growth in the market and will mean incredible growth for both the Asian offering and the firm globally,” said Paul Jenkins (pictured), Ashurst’s global CEO.
