Antas da Cunha Ecija expands to Madeira

Antas da Cunha Ecija has just established a partnership with the Madeiran law firm Vítor Abreu Advogados, which focuses on the area of private clients. Rui Mesquita, partner responsible for the firm’s insurance and civil liability practice, will coordinate the connection between the two offices in Lisbon and Funchal.

According to the lawyer, “This is a strategic partnership. The area of civil liability is highly relevant both in Madeira and Porto Santo, due to the significant number of road accidents that occur every year.” Rui Mesquita adds: “The Madeira archipelago lacks specialized legal structures capable of providing adequate support to accident victims in the region. For this reason, we believe this partnership will allow us to offer our private clients a local referral network involving doctors and investigators, which will undoubtedly prove very useful.”

Rui Mesquita hightlights the importance of the archipelago as a free port and a tourist destination, which makes the local market highly attractive. “Our initial focus will be on the civil liability area, but we are confident that the synergies now being built will quickly extend to other practice areas”, he says.

For Vítor Abreu, founding lawyer of Vítor Abreu Advogados, “the challenge of collaborating with a firm of the size and reputation of Antas da Cunha Ecija made perfect sense from the very beginning—not only because of our shared values and principles but, above all, because of the opportunity to join one of the largest and most innovative law firms in the country.” He concludes: “The greatest beneficiaries will undoubtedly be our clients.”

Vítor Abreu’s practice focuses primarily on civil law, particularly on family conflict management, estate administration and succession, contractual disputes, and registry and notary matters.
