Addleshaw Goddard opens an office in Madrid with 13 partners and their KWM teams
UK law firm Addleshaw has entered the Spanish market with the opening of an office in Madrid, led by Roberto Pomares, managing partner of KWM Madrid, with more than 60 lawyers from the Chinese firm.
Eversheds Sutherland and KWM, formal cooperation agreement
Eversheds Sutherland and King Wood Mallesons announced a formal cooperation agreement in July 2023, under which KWM (China) would refer all future matters requiring legal advice in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America to Eversheds Sutherland (International). In addition, clients of Eversheds Sutherland (International) requiring PRC legal advice would be referred to KWM (China).
Following this announcement, KWM’s Madrid office disassociated itself from the alliance and began looking for another brand to work under. In this case, Addleshaw Goddard has been chosen.
Roberto Pomares, Managing Partner of KWM Spain, said: “Joining Addleshaw Goddard is a fantastic opportunity to join a like-minded firm that shares our passion for bringing truly imaginative approaches to legal service delivery. Combined with AG, we will be able to better meet clients’ needs and compete more.”

AG in Madrid will offer a full Corporate, Commercial, Dispute Resolution, Labor, Energy, Finance, Intellectual Property, Private Equity, Real Estate and Tax practice in sectors as diverse as energy, investment funds, financial institutions, industrial, real estate, retail and TMT.
The presence in Spain, the fourth largest economy in the European Union, brings the total number of AG offices worldwide to 19, including eight in continental Europe and Ireland, expanding AG’s full-service offering to top-tier international and domestic clients in Europe’s major business centers.
The new team brings market-leading positions in funds, private equity, energy, financial services, real estate, retail and technology, making it a compelling proposition following AG’s recent hire of a four-partner energy team in Berlin from EY and the expansion of its EMEA funds practice and its continued focus in each of these areas.
The opening of an office in Madrid follows the opening of AG’s Berlin office in January 2024, one of four German offices opened by the firm since 2019. Since 2021, the firm has also opened European offices in Paris, Dublin and Luxembourg, in addition to opening an office in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in 2024.
