Pinsent Masons advises TotalEnergies on European divestment

Pinsent Masons has advised TotalEnergies on the divestment of its distributed solar activities in Europe. The decision aligns with the company’s strategy to refocus its renewable energy development on large utility-scale solar and wind farms in order to benefit from economies of scale.

The company has completed the divestment of all its distributed solar assets (around 170 MW), mainly rooftop installations, across seven European countries—France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Luxembourg—to AMPYR Distributed Energy, bringing its distributed generation activities in these markets to an end.

TotalEnergies is a global integrated energy company that produces and markets energy, including oil and biofuels, natural gas, biogas and low-carbon hydrogen, as well as renewables and electricity. It is building a portfolio that combines renewable energy with flexible assets (CCGT and storage).

In Spain, the transaction was coordinated by partner Hermenegildo Altozano and senior associate Sergio Peñamaría. They worked alongside a cross-border team comprising Luis Marques Guilherme and David Maria in Luxembourg, Frits Burg, Emile Doelwijt and Eugenie Schoeman in the Netherlands, Heather Hutcheon and Robert Lawless in the UK, and Jamie Robson, who advised on UK tax matters.
