Clifford Chance advises Masdar on €849M Repsol portfolio deal

Clifford Chance has advised Abu Dhabi-based clean energy company Masdar on the acquisition of a 49.99% stake in a Spanish renewable energy portfolio from Repsol, in a transaction valued at €849 million. The portfolio spans 705 MW of operational capacity across 13 wind farms and 6 solar PV plants, with potential for an additional 565 MW of future hybridization growth.

The transaction sees Masdar secure a near-equal stake in one of Spain’s significant operational renewable portfolios, with Repsol retaining the remaining interest. The portfolio’s hybridization potential adds a forward-looking dimension to the deal, positioning the joint venture for further capacity expansion beyond its current operational base.
