David Díez joins A&O Shearman to head Spain regulatory practice
A&O Shearman has appointed David Díez (pictured) as partner in charge of its public law and regulated sectors practice in Spain, as anticipated by Iberian Lawyer. He will strength the firm’s capabilities in key industries such as energy, infrastructure and environmental regulation.

David Díez join the firm from Watson Farley & Williams, where he spent more than eleven years as partner and head of the regulatory practice.
A specialist in public law and regulated sectors, Díez has extensive experience advising on matters related to energy, environment, waste management, public infrastructure and public procurement. Over the course of his career, he has advised companies, financial institutions and investment funds on significant transactions involving the financing, development and sale of renewable energy assets.
His experience includes projects involving wind farms, biomass plants, photovoltaic installations and solar thermal facilities, working on both the regulatory and transactional aspects of these investments.
Beyond his private practice, Díez is also active in the sector’s institutional environment. Since 2014 he has served as secretary of the board of the Spanish Photovoltaic Union and is a founding member of AEDEN.
The hire reinforces A&O Shearman’s regulatory capabilities in Spain, particularly in sectors undergoing intense regulatory transformation such as energy and infrastructure.
