WLW spotlights AI, child protection and young women’s leadership

Women in a Legal World (WLW) hosted an event on the ethical and regulatory challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) and took part in a second focused on developing early-career talent, with discussions centred on institutional cooperation and international women’s leadership.

BREAKFAST WITH AMBASSADORS

In February 2026, WLW hosted the sixth edition of its Breakfast with Ambassadors series at Lupicinio International Law Firm. The session was opened by Marlen Estévez, WLW president, and led by Fátima Rodríguez, a member of WLW’s board, and centred on “the legal risks of artificial intelligence for children and how to prevent them”.

The debate brought together the Ambassadors accredited in Spain of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kenya, Angola and Zambia, alongside Spanish legal figures including Isabel Winkels, vice-dean of the Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid (ICAM); Mª Jesús Fraile, Secretary of Government of the Audiencia Nacional; and Teresa del Caso, Justice of the Spanish Supreme Court.

The discussion highlighted the gap between the pace of regulation and technological development. Vesna Andree Zaimović, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pointed to regulation as a shared commitment between states, referencing existing frameworks such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Irena Šarac, Ambassador of Serbia, raised concerns about cognitive effects and excessive dependency on technology among minors.

From a policy perspective, Nairimas Sharon Ole-Sein, Ambassador of Kenya, referred to her country’s 2025 National AI Strategy, which includes a specific focus on child protection. Balbina Malheiros Dias da Silva, Ambassador of Angola, and Judith Mulenga, Ambassador of Zambia, addressed digital inequality and the need for adequate infrastructure to prevent AI from widening existing social gaps.
