Amelia Buergo, new deputy head of legal at Cofides

Cofides has promoted Amelia Buergo, previously senior managing advisor, to the position of deputy head of legal at the entity, thereby strengthening its legal department.

Buergo comes from Cogen Energía (MET Group), where she held the position of legal manager and secretary to the board of directors. She has more than 20 years of national and international experience in management positions, combining internal legal advice in large financial institutions with her career in top-level law firms.

Before joining Cogen Energía, the lawyer worked in Garrido Abogados, where she was a partner and head of the Corporate department. In 2020, she joined Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, specifically the banking and capital markets department, as of counsel. Previously, she held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Board of Santander Investment and was Legal Director of the Credit and Corporate Finance departments at Banco Santander.

Buergo joined Banco Santander from Banesto, where she worked as a financial lawyer for wholesale banking between 2009 and 2013. She began her professional career at Uría Menéndez, where she specialised in project and acquisition financing, as well as mergers and acquisitions, real estate, regulatory and restructuring transactions.

Academically, she holds a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management from ICADE (E-3) and a PDD from IE Business School.
