Cuatrecasas advises on the acquisition of a minority stake in Bit2Me
Cuatrecasas, together with McDermott, Will & Schulte, has advised Tether on the acquisition of a minority stake in the digital asset platform Bit2Me.
Tether, the largest company in the digital asset industry and issuer of USDT, the stablecoin with the highest market capitalisation, has acquired a minority stake in the digital asset exchange platform Bit2Me, which is the first Spanish fintech to have received authorisation from the CNMV to operate as a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) in accordance with the MiCA Regulation.
As already stated by the parties involved, Tether’s investment will enable Bit2Me to drive forward its expansion plans in the European Union and strengthen its operations in Latin America.
McDermott, Will & Schulte and Cuatrecasas acted as legal advisers to Tether. The Cuatrecasas team was led by Fernando Mínguez, from the Corporate (M&A – Financial and Insurance Services) group, together with Carlota Tojo and Julián Ruan. The transaction also involved a multidisciplinary team from the firm, including Álvaro Bourkaib (Intellectual and Industrial Property), Enrique Carrera (Foreign Authorisations), Rebeca Rodríguez (Tax), Miguel Sánchez Monjo (Financial Regulation) and María López Ridruejo (Competition and European Union Law).
