PLMJ strengthens presence in Mozambique with NMP Advogados

PLMJ will now advise its clients in Mozambique through PLMJ Colab Mozambique NMP Advogados. Founded by PLMJ managing associate Nuno Morgado Pereira (pictured), PLMJ Colab Mozambique – NMP Advogados becomes part of PLMJ Colab, the firm’s international network of offices focused on countries with cultural and strategic ties to Portugal.

“Based in Mozambique, PLMJ Colab Mozambique – NMP Advogados combines the offering of a full-service Portuguese firm with extensive local experience”, states the law firm. Until now, PLMJ had been working in partnership with TTA – Sociedade de Advogados, a local firm led by Tomás Timbane. “The transition to PLMJ Colab Mozambique – NMP Advogados reflects the firm’s commitment to strengthening its investment in the country, reinforcing its connection with PLMJ in Portugal, and further exploring the transactional segment”, states PLMJ.

Cross-borders opportunities

“With PLMJ Colab Mozambique – NMP Advogados we are taking a step we have long wanted to take in Mozambique, with a firm that is both local and aligned with the same approach we adopt in Portugal: cultivating strong sectoral specialisation while maintaining in-depth knowledge of the law across all practice areas. This move also creates an opportunity to grow the more transactional segment”, says Bruno Ferreira, managing partner of PLMJ.

According to Nuno Morgado Pereira, founder and head of the Mozambique desk, PLMJ’s local partner is “particularly focused on advising Mozambican companies and both domestic and international investors who choose Mozambique to grow their business. The local presence ensures valuable proximity to our clients, while the connection to one of the most reputable firms in Portugal enables us to provide an unmatched level of service, aligned with the ambitions of our clients in Mozambique.”

Nuno Morgado Pereira is a managing associate in PLMJ’s banking and finance and capital markets practice. With over 10 years of experience in projects and financings across both the Mozambican and Portuguese markets, his practice covers project finance and project development transactions, particularly in the energy sector (including oil and gas, LNG, and the energy transition), natural resources, and infrastructure, from the design stage through to the secondary market.
