Bird & Bird expands to Lisbon with new office

Bird & Bird has announced the expansion of its presence in the Iberian Peninsula with the opening of a new office in Lisbon. The team, led by Ana Rita Paínho and Sofia Carreiro, brings expertise in intellectual property, TMT, life sciences, corporate, M&A, employment and litigation. They join Bird & Bird as partners in Portugal. The initial team, in addition to these two partners, includes one of counsel, two senior counsels, three associates, and support staff, states the law firm.

Ana Rita Painho transits from Sérvulo, where she was a partner in the Life Sciences, Intellectual Property and TMT departments, working in the areas of trademarks and patents. Sofia Carreiro, also a former partner at Sérvulo, focuses on the corporate, commercial and M&A practice areas.

Coral Yáñez, managing partner of Bird & Bird Spain, will take on the leadership of the Iberian region: “Portugal is a key country in the European economy. We know that its growing reputation as a technology and innovation hub is highly attractive to our clients. […] By leveraging cross-border business synergies, key industrial sectors, and the success of our Madrid office, opening in Lisbon is a natural step to consolidate our reputation in the Iberian market.”
