PONS IP new appointments in Trademarks & Brand Intelligence

PONS IP, a global consultancy in intellectual and industrial property services, has reinforced its leadership in the sector with the appointment of Pablo López Ronda as Director of the Trademarks & Brand Intelligence Area and Ana Teresa Barreto as Deputy Director of the same division. These appointments are part of a new organizational structure that strengthens the firm’s management team within one of its core business areas.

According to data from the EUIPO, PONS IP is Spain’s leading consultancy in EU trademark applications, with more than 16,000 applications filed through 2024 and a 23% growth in the last year alone, ranking among Europe’s top IP firms with nearly 1,000 trademarks registered in 2024.

With more than 22 years of experience in intellectual and industrial property, Pablo López joins the firm after building most of his career at ClarkeModet, where he held senior management positions in Trademarks, Sales, Business Development, and Transformation, among others. A qualified lawyer with a postgraduate degree in IP from ESADE and an Official Industrial Property Agent since 2007, López will lead a team of 30 specialists, making the division one of the largest and most respected in the industry.

Commenting on his new role, López stated: “Taking on this position is a major step forward in my professional career and an exciting challenge. I join an exceptional team in a firm that is a true benchmark in trademark management and protection. PONS IP not only leads the sector, but sets the path forward, and being part of this journey is a unique opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Ana Teresa Barreto will play a pivotal role in the firm’s internationalization strategy as Deputy Director. With more than 20 years of experience managing global IP portfolios across Europe and Latin America, Barreto has held senior leadership positions, including serving as General Manager of ClarkeModet Peru. Most recently, she worked as Of Counsel at DLA Piper Peru, where she co-led the regional IP & Technology practice for Latin America.

On her appointment, Barreto noted: “My international experience in IP law enables me to bring a strategic perspective to support our clients in protecting innovation globally. Joining PONS IP, a firm that leads the sector and is committed to excellence, is a great opportunity to contribute to the growth and positioning of its services.”

Finally, Nuria Marcos, Managing Director of the firm, welcomed the appointments: “At a time when more Spanish companies and international multinationals are placing their trust in us to protect and exploit their brands worldwide, we are proud to add their talent to our leadership team. Their contributions will be essential to successfully driving our global growth and expansion strategy.”
