Matilde Mello Cabral joins Antas da Cunha Ecija as COO

Antas da Cunha Ecija has announced the appointment of Matilde Mello Cabral as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Over the past year and a half, she served as deputy to the Minister of Finance. In her new role, Mello Cabral will be responsible for the firm’s operational management. Streamlining processes, increasing efficiency and productivity, and overseeing the firm’s activities with the goal of promoting a culture of continuous improvement will be her main priorities, states the law firm.

Matilde Mello Cabral has over 20 years of experience in law firm management, with a career marked by projects in transformation, technological innovation, and strategic management, both in Portugal and in Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOPs). Over the past 18 months, she served as deputy to the Minister of State and Finance, coordinating stakeholders in the financial sector and regulators, and working on strategic communication and Public Administration Reform initiatives.

Previously, she was also COO at Abreu Advogados, a member of several management committees, and responsible for implementing digital transformation programmes, talent management, and new business models. At PLMJ, she led support and communication areas, driving international expansion projects, rebranding, and major organisational change initiatives. She holds a Law degree from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa and an Executive Master’s in Marketing Management from ISCTE.

“After a demanding and deeply enriching period of public service, I felt this was the right project for my return to the sector,” says Matilde Mello Cabral. “I have worked in business law for over 20 years, and having now the opportunity to return through a project with the boldness and unique characteristics of Antas da Cunha Ecija makes me very excited.”

Fernando Antas da Cunha, managing partner, says: “Matilde arrives at the right time. In recent years, Antas da Cunha Ecija has registered very significant growth. We are now in a consolidation phase and, in this sense, it is crucial to be able to count on someone with Matilde’s experience, who combines management skills with deep knowledge of the sector.”
