José Gomes Mendes to lead sports law at Telles

Telles has welcomed José Gomes Mendes (pictured) to its sports law practice, that he will now lead as counsel. Mendes joins from Promosport, where he was since 2019.

Mendes holds a law degree and a master’s in Legal and Economic Sciences from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto, and a postgraduate degree in Sports Law and Finance from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. His academic background is complemented by practical experience, including legal advice to sports companies, clubs, athletes, coaches, agents, and other sports entities, both nationally and internationally. He is also a regular guest lecturer in specialization courses at the University of Porto and the European University, and has several key publications in the field.

“I believe that the combination of my experience in the sector and the firm’s culture of excellence will allow for highly qualified legal support, tailored to the growing demands of the sports ecosystem”, says José Gomes Mendes.

“The arrival of José Gomes Mendes is a significant step in our specialization strategy and strengthens Telles’ position as a leading firm in legal support to the sports sector,” says Francisco Espregueira Mendes, managing partner.

Telles’ sports law practice is made up of a multidisciplinary team of six lawyers, who focus on advising athletes, coaches, agents, sports companies, clubs, associations, and federations across various sports.
