Antonio Puentes joins CMS as head of tax litigation
CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo has announced the appointment of Antonio Puentes as head of Tax Litigation and Contentious Tax Matters, effective from September 1, 2025. Puentes had been the partner in charge of the Tax Litigation/Tax Procedure department at BDO Abogados in Madrid until this Monday.
His arrival is part of the firm’s efforts to strengthen its Tax Procedure area, one of the strategic goals outlined in CMS’s 2024–2026 Strategic Plan aimed at consolidating its position in this practice area, states the law firm.
About Antonio Puentes
Antonio Puentes is a specialist in European Union Tax Law, particularly in the field of direct taxation, with over 25 years of experience in tax advisory services. He has been involved in more than a hundred proceedings related to the recovery of taxes paid in breach of EU law, which has allowed him to build extensive expertise in tax litigation.
According to César Albiñana and Alfonso Codes, managing partners at CMS, the arrival of Puentes, who has a solid track record and proven technical expertise, represents “a decisive step in strengthening the firm’s position in Tax Procedure — a strategic area the firm is strongly committed to, and one in which, following this appointment, it aims to maintain and enhance excellence in client service”.
Puentes holds a law degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid and is a member of the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM).
