Ignacio Hornedo, new managing partner at A&O Shearman Spain

A&O Shearman has appointed Ignacio Hornedo, partner of the Corporate and M&A practice, as new managing partner in Spain, effective November 1st, after an orderly transition period. He will take over from Antonio Vázquez-Guillén and Ignacio Ruiz-Cámara who have led the firm for 10 years, almost tripling its revenues in the last decade.

Ignacio Hornedo said: “I am very proud and excited to be able to join A&O Shearman at such an exciting time after our recent merger. I am more than grateful to all my partners for their trust and I only hope to help consolidate us as the best firm in Spain, supported by the great work that Antonio and Ignacio have done to place us at the highest level.”

Ignacio Hornedo

Hornedo (Madrid, 1982) holds a law degree from Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Icade) and joined A&O Shearman in 2005, becoming a partner in the Corporate and M&A practice in May 2018. Since joining the firm 20 years ago, the Corporate and M&A practice, under the management of Íñigo del Val, has grown 105%.

His appointment, as explained by the firm, comes at a time when the firm’s own structure was calling for a change of leadership, after the 10-year mandate of Vázquez-Guillén and Ruiz-Cámara and the availability of the ideal person for the position.

Antonio Vázquez-Guillén and Ignacio Ruiz-Cámara

Vázquez-Guillén and Ruiz-Cámara will focus on their current global responsibilities, in addition to continuing to lead the Litigation & Arbitration and Banking & Finance practices in Spain, respectively. Following the merger on May 1, 2024 of Allen & Overy with New York-based Shearman & Sterling, Antonio Vázquez-Guillén assumed co-management of the global Litigation practice. Following the merger, Ignacio Ruiz-Cámara assumed theco-management of the Europe region at A&O Shearman.

“Having been at the helm of such a powerful firm as A&O Shearman for a decade makes us very proud. This spectacular stage has marked our life and also that of the firm in Spain. We are sure that Ignacio will take A&O Shearman to the next level in our country. He has our full support,” concluded Antonio Vázquez-Guillén and Ignacio Ruiz-Cámara.
