Leadership transition at ANDEMA’s General Assembly

The Spanish Association for the Defense of Trademarks (ANDEMA) held its Annual General Assembly yesterday at the historic headquarters of the Spanish Royal Mint (FNMT-RCM), marking a pivotal moment with the end of Rosa Tous’s eight-year presidency.

Under Tous’s leadership since 2017, the association has seen steady growth, culminating this year in surpassing 100 member companies with the addition of 15 new firms. In her farewell remarks, Tous reflected on the evolution of the organization, its resilience during the pandemic, and its continued commitment to brand protection and industrial property rights.

Key milestones during her tenure include the launch of the European Forum on Industrial Property and the Javier Navarro Journalism Awards, as well as strengthened legal advocacy and member services like trademark databases and working groups.

ANDEMA’s institutional closing ceremony also marked its 35th anniversary with the launch of the commemorative book “Legacy and Future of Trademark Protection in Spain”. The presentation featured a roundtable discussion led by ANDEMA’s Director General Gerard Guiu, with prominent figures such as José Luis Bonet, Patricia García-Escudero, Jordi García, Miguel Garrido, and Rosa Tous herself.

The event was closed by Pablo Garde, Undersecretary of Industry and Tourism and President of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), reaffirming the government’s support for intellectual property protection in Spain.

Rosa Tous will remain as acting president until a new representative is appointed, after which TOUS will continue as an active member of ANDEMA, upholding its commitment to combat trademark-related crime and defend consumer rights.
