José Luis Pita and Borja Carpintero join Jones Day as partner and of counsel

As Iberian Lawyer can exclusively reveal, Jones Day has added four lawyers to its Financial Markets practice in the Madrid office. The team consists of José Luis Pita da Veiga and Borja Carpintero, as partner and of counsel from RocaJunyent and Simmons & Simmons, respectively; and Marina Zarza and Nicolás Aragonés who join as associates.

José Luis Pita da Veiga

Pita da Veiga Subirats joins as a partner and comes from RocaJunyent, where he was a partner in the Banking and Finance department. The new lawyer focuses his practice on advising financial institutions, as well as debt and private equity funds, sponsors and issuers, on all types of financing transactions, including acquisition financings, restructuring and refinancing in insolvency and pre-insolvency situations. In particular, Pita da Veiga has experience in multi-jurisdictional transactions.

In addition, Pita da Veiga holds a law degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Westminster in London, as well as a Master in Financial Markets from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles.

Borja Carpintero

Carpintero joins as of counsel from Simmons & Simmons Madrid, where he was managing associate in the Banking and Finance practice.

The new lawyer specialises in international and cross-border transactions, debt issuance, securitisations and structured finance transactions of various asset classes. Carpintero also has experience advising investment banks and global financial services companies on structured bond issues and programmes, repackaging transactions and debt markets.

He holds a law degree from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas in Madrid and a master’s degree in law from the Instituto de Empresa.

Financial Markets Practice

This practice advises on all types of cross-border financial transactions, regulatory matters, investigations and litigation. The client base he represents includes global financial institutions, issuers, borrowers, funds, asset managers and fintech companies. The firm’s Financial Markets practice has completed over $1 trillion worth of financing transactions in the last five years.
