CS’Associados has announced the integration of Miguel Esperança Pina as partner and co-head of the Litigation and Arbitration area. He is joined by senior associate Carolina Botelho Sampaio and associate António Castro e Solla.

Miguel Esperança Pina

With more than 30 years of experience, Miguel Esperança Pina has been partner in charge of the Litigation and Arbitration department at Cuatrecasas in Portugal, where he worked between 2001 and 2018. He is also one of the founders of the Portuguese Arbitration Association (APA) and has been recognized as a leader (tier 1) by all international directories in the sector.

Esperança holds a law degree from Universidade Católica Portuguesa and has acted in highly complex cases, including contractual disputes in sectors such as finance, construction and energy, as well as international arbitrations involving aviation companies, food industry and media. His experience as an arbitrator includes more than 50 arbitrations administered by the International Chamber of Commerce and the Lisbon Commercial Arbitration Center, and he has been appointed arbitrator by entities such as the Portuguese State and the United States.

“The integration of Miguel Esperança Pina consolidates CS’Associados’ strategy in this area, increasing its capacity to provide excellent legal assistance in complex litigation,” the firm said in a statement. His extensive experience in Dispute Resolution and Arbitration, both nationally and internationally, including acting as arbitrator, is a relevant asset for the firm and its clients in Spain. In addition to Miguel, senior associate Carolina Botelho Sampaio and associate António Castro e Solla also join the area.

Core area

João Maria Pimentel, partner at CS’Associados, says that “Litigation and Arbitration is a core area of the firm’s strategy. We continually invest in continuing to grow, with a team of experienced lawyers, as we have already done with Professor Rui Pinto Duarte, one of the most prestigious arbitrators in Portugal. The arrival of Miguel Esperança Pina reinforces this commitment and the search for excellence, placing this area at the level of those that until now were perceived as the core of the firm. The choice of Miguel to join CS’Associados confirms the attractiveness of our differentiated model, based on a culture of internal parity and external partnership with our clients. For CS’Associados, we could not pass up the opportunity to have Miguel join our team”.

This recruitment reinforces the presence of CS’Associados in Spain, in the area of dispute resolution, especially in the insurance, banking and construction sectors.
