Lightsource bp closes €175m financing for the construction of the Guillena project: Advisors

Lightsource bp, a global leader in solar energy projects, has reached financial close for the Guillena project. The cluster includes five solar plants in Andalusia, located in Guillena, Burguillos, and Alcalá del Río, with a total capacity of 248 MWp.

The company secured the deal with support from BBVA, BNP Paribas, CA-CIB, and ING, for a total of 175 million euros.

Construction will begin in October this year in collaboration with Cox, providing engineering and procurement services. Once operational, the Guillena plants will generate over 515,000 MWh of clean energy annually, enough to power 132,000 homes.

This renewable energy production will prevent the emission of 77,000 tons of CO2 each year, equivalent to removing over 60,000 cars from the roads.

Lightsource bp’s in-house team was led by Fernando Reina Muñoz (managing counsel). Lawyers of his team, Ana Belen Aguado Berdion (legal counsel), Orlando Rouco Calaza (senior legal counsel) and Maria Casas Perez (legal counsel), also participated in the different aspects of the project.

White & Case has acted as legal advisor to Lightsource bp, with the London office leading the transaction with support from the Madrid office. Fernando Navarro (managing partner), Jaime Rossi (partner), Alfonso García Freire (counsel), Juan Sampedro (associate), Rafael Minguez (associate) and Guillermo Manzanares (associate) worked in the Madrid office.

Cuatrecasas has also advised the company in the due diligence with a team formed by Alejandro Bonitch (partner) and David Vidal (advisor).

The banking partners have been advised by Watson Farley and Williams on all legal matters, with the London office leading the transaction. They have also been supported by the energy and infrastructure project finance team in Madrid.
