Major merger: Cruz Vilaça Advogados joins Antas da Cunha Ecija

Antas da Cunha Ecija has just announced the integration of Cruz Vilaça Advogados into its corporate structure. With this integration, the firm led by Fernando Antas da Cunha expands in key areas of European law and competition law, while maintaining its DNA as a “full-service law firm.” Cruz Vilaça was founded five years ago by one of the leading authorities in European Union law and competition law, José Luís da Cruz Vilaça, a former European judge and president of the former Court of First Instance of the European Union. Along with Cruz Vilaça, the firm brings in its current two partners, Paulo de Almeida Sande and Mariana Tavares, along with other professionals, totaling nine people.

According to Fernando Antas da Cunha, managing partner of Antas da Cunha Ecija, “Cruz Vilaça Advogados is a reference in Portugal and Europe in those fields, in sectors such as digital, energy, and fundamental rights. Having a team recognized for its solid legal training, international experience, and unparalleled expertise within our structure fills us with pride!”.

European law and competition law

The areas of European law and competition law will be coordinated by José Luís da Cruz Vilaça and Paulo de Almeida Sande, who join Antas da Cunha ECIJA as partners. “It was with great satisfaction and a sense of responsibility that we made this decision”, states José Luís da Cruz Vilaça. “For a highly specialized and profitable boutique firm like CVA, integrating with a multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional firm of the size, profile, and ambition of Antas da Cunha Ecija will be highly beneficial.”

The official integration of Cruz Vilaça Advogados into Antas da Cunha Ecija will take place on January 1, 2025. From that date, the firm will have approximately 170 professionals, including partners, consultants, associates, trainees, and others. Founded in 2015, Antas da Cunha Ecija is an international law firm providing integrated services with a special focus on digital law.
