Rafael Calvo: New Leadership for Garrigues London Office

Garrigues has appointed Rafael Calvo as the new head of its London office, succeeding Nacho Corbera, who returns to Barcelona. Established in 2007, the London office focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, finance, reorganizations, and international arbitration.

Rafael Calvo, a partner at Garrigues since 1998, assumed leadership of the London office in September 2024. With extensive expertise in international taxation, he has advised Spanish-listed companies, multinational corporations, and foreign investors on their operations in Spain.

Calvo specializes in EU tax law, having assisted numerous clients in recovering taxes that conflict with the EU’s freedoms of establishment and capital movement. His experience also includes handling significant state aid cases and representing clients in both Spanish and European tax disputes.

In addition to his legal practice, Rafael is a frequent collaborator with universities and business schools on EU tax matters. He serves on the board of the Spanish Association of Financial Law and is the Spanish correspondent for European Taxation.
