ABG IP Strengthens Patent Division with Lluís Vilalta

ABG Intellectual Property has strengthened its patent division with the appointment of Lluís Vilalta, who joins the Barcelona office to lead the patents team specializing in engineering, physics, and information technologies. With over 20 years of experience, Vilalta is a qualified European Patent Attorney and Industrial Property Agent, recognized for his expertise by the international ranking IAM Patent 1000.

Vilalta’s extensive experience includes representation before the European Patent Office (EPO) and certification as a European Patent Litigator, which allows him to appear before the Unified Patent Court. He is also trained in civil and commercial mediation, and has frequently served as a technical expert in patent infringement and invalidity cases. Prior to joining ABG IP, he was a partner and head of the patent department at the prominent industrial property firm Sugranyés IP in Barcelona.

With his arrival, ABG IP’s team now includes eight European Patent Attorneys, providing services across a wide range of industries, from startups to multinational corporations. Juan Arias, managing partner at ABG IP, highlighted that Vilalta’s expertise would significantly enhance the firm’s capabilities in cutting-edge fields such as medical devices and artificial intelligence.

ABG IP’s Barcelona office is home to six of the firm’s 22 European Patent Attorneys, solidifying its position as a leader in patent services in Spain. The firm also has 12 attorneys accredited to act before the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and three representatives qualified for the Unified Patent Court.
