Chabaneix Abogados welcomes Carlos Bautista Samaniego
Chabaneix Abogados Penalistas, a firm specializing in economic and international criminal law, has announced the addition of Carlos Bautista Samaniego (pictured right) to its team. Bautista Samaniego, a former prosecutor from Spain’s National Court, brings extensive expertise in drug trafficking, money laundering, and counter-terrorism cases. He is also a renowned expert in extraditions and European arrest warrants.
Throughout his distinguished career as a prosecutor, Bautista played a pivotal role in several high-profile cases, including the prosecution of those responsible for the March 11, 2004 terrorist attack in Madrid, leading to the conviction of 21 individuals. He also participated in the “Gestoras Áskatasuna” case involving ETA prisoners, the “Faisán” case addressing ETA’s financing network, and the “Globalia Residents” case, which marked the first time a legal entity was solely convicted of subsidy fraud without simultaneous charges against an individual. Additionally, he contributed to the “Mundo Mágico” case, resulting in multiple convictions for a multi-property pyramid scheme.
Beyond his courtroom achievements, he has made significant contributions to legal education, teaching economic criminal law and extradition procedures at various universities and institutions, including the Madrid Bar Association. He has authored over fifteen books on topics such as passive extradition laws, European arrest warrants, money laundering, terrorism offenses, and corporate criminal liability.
Chabaneix Abogados Penalistas, led by Luis Chabaneix (pictured left), views the addition of Bautista Samaniego as a strategic step to further enhance its capabilities in complex criminal law cases, particularly in international matters.
