Integration of two leading firms in Mexico and the Iberian Peninsula

With this merger, Pérez-Llorca becomes one of the largest legal practices in Mexico with an initial platform of 100 lawyers and around 160 professionals distributed in its offices in Mexico City and Monterrey. The partners of González Calvillo become part of the partnership of Pérez-Llorca through the first integration of two leading firms in Mexico and the Iberian Peninsula. Both firms have worked together for clients around the world for the last 20 years, so this transaction comes after a solid relationship.

This integration is born with the purpose of developing the first legal practice in Mexico, with a reference position in large transactions, financings, transnational litigation and regulatory matters, providing a comprehensive service to clients on both sides of the Atlantic, large multinationals and financial sponsors, as well as other international law firms. To this end, an important investment strategy will be addressed and the necessary financial resources will be allocated to strengthen the Mexican teams and continue with the expansion of the practice.

Globally legal service

In this way, the firm will offer globally legal service in Spanish, Portuguese, European and Mexican law from its offices in Barcelona, Brussels, Mexico City, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Monterrey, New York and Singapore, where nearly 500 lawyers and a total of 800 professionals will work. Pérez-Llorca’s global pro forma sales in the last 12 months, including the Mexican operation, are estimated at US$160 million.

Mexico and Spain, in addition to being the two largest Spanish-speaking economies, are connected by strong cultural ties and a high degree of integration between their business communities, making this country a natural market for the Firm to continue to grow and develop.

Largest Hispanic-American firm

“We believe that the strong and sophisticated Mexican legal industry will continue to develop, grow and consolidate in the coming years, and we believe we have the willingness and ability to contribute positively and significantly to that process,” said Pedro Pérez-Llorca, managing partner of Pérez-Llorca, following the closing of this integration.

“The merger with Pérez-Llorca makes us the largest Hispanic-American firm, which will allow us to serve our clients on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as to energize our close relationship with the most important law firms in the United States, Europe and Latin America,” said Enrique González Calvillo, founding partner of González Calvillo.

According to Rodrigo Rojas, partner of the firm, “our integration represents a milestone in the Mexican legal market and places us in a unique and solid position to offer our Mexican and foreign clients first class legal services through our offices around the world”.

Iván Delgado, international executive partner of Pérez-Llorca, emphasized that “this union makes us stronger and more competitive to face the complex challenges of an increasingly internationalized legal market where transactions and disputes exceed the borders of their countries of origin”.
