Salvador González new President of Spanish Lawyers Council

Salvador González Marín, the Dean of the Málaga Bar Association, has been elected as the new president of the Spanish General Council of Lawyers (Consejo General de la bogacía Española) by an absolute majority. He secured 48 votes (57.8%) out of a total of 83 votes cast in the elections held during the plenary session this morning.

A total of 28 candidates were presented in these elections. In the third round of voting, where only González and the Dean of Las Palmas, Rafael Massieu, were contenders, Massieu received 34 votes (40.9%), and there was one blank vote.

The current president of the General Council of Lawyers, Victoria Ortega, announced in May that she would not seek re-election after serving two consecutive terms, having been elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020.

The new president will take office on July 19th. González Marín has been the Dean of the Málaga Bar Association since 2020. He specializes in Commercial and Corporate Law and advises national and multinational companies on compliance matters.

He served as the Legal Director of Grant Thornton Andalucía until 2022 and is currently the Legal Director at Inurepro. His preferred areas of practice are Commercial Law, Civil Law, Procedural Law, and Arbitration.

González Marín is also a professor and coordinator of the Master’s in Legal Practice with a focus on commercial law, offered in collaboration with the University of Málaga (UMA). Additionally, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Commercial Law at UMA and the President of the Free Legal Aid Commission of the Andalusian Council of Bar Associations.
