ECIJA organises a session on the legal limits of ‘true crime’

ECIJA has organized ‘From the cover to the screen: dissecting true crime’ on its auditorium, a session regarding the latest developments surrounding this genre of content and where a group of experts analysed the legal and ethical limits of these audiovisual productions.

The session addressed the management of minors’ appearances and testimonies in such productions, prisoners’ rights to freedom of expression, and the right to be forgotten—a development of the right to erasure of personal data in the digital environment. Among other topics, it has been emphasized the need to steer clear of sensationalism, always striving for a balance between the right to information and respectful treatment of victims.

The panel included Iñigo De Yarza, CEO of HENNEO Audiovisual; Pepe Quílez, Executive Director of HENNEO Audiovisual; Cristina Ortiz, Legal & Business Affairs Director of Bambú Producciones; John Brian Charles Houghton, Director of Commercial Risk Solutions at Aon; Helena Suarez Jaqueti, Partner of Intellectual Property, Industrial, and Audiovisual Law at ECIJA; Rubén Lahiguera Gallardo, Manager at ECIJA; and Ana Belén Spínola Pérez, Manager at ECIJA.
