EY places the chief data officer as a key enabler of business growth

EY has positioned the Chief Data Officer (CDO) as a key player in the digital transformation and growth of organizations, with 46.53% and 22.77% of cases, respectively, as the main motivators. This is the main conclusion of EY’s report: The Chief Data Officer, the result of collaboration with the Club Chief Data Officers Spain & Latam, presented yesterday at the firm’s headquarters in Madrid.

The survey of more than 100 Chief Data Officers from Spain and Latin America reveals that, in addition to the main drivers, 17.82% of the participants consider that the main reason for introducing the CDO position is to improve operational efficiency. This reason prevails over others such as regulatory pressure and risk mitigation, which were pointed out by less than 10% of respondents, with 5.94% and 3.96%, respectively.

Key driver of business growth

“The purpose of our research is to delve deeper into the role of the Chief Data Officer to maximize his or her contribution to companies,” says Pedro Agudo, senior partner of Data & AI at EY Consulting. He further adds, “The CDO is becoming a fundamental pillar not only for the future of the corporate environment but also for society as a whole. In an era dominated by big data, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, the figure of the CDO emerges as the undisputed leader in the strategic navigation towards optimal data management and leverage.”

In the words of Rafael Fernández Campos, president of the CDO Club Spain & LATAM: “We want this study to become a valuable tool available to Club members. The knowledge we gather here can be applied at different levels – corporate, role and individual – and is designed to help CDOs evolve their role, functions and competencies.”
