Colombian law firm Martínez Quintero opens office in Madrid
Colombian law firm Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De La Rosa is making its entry into Spain with the opening of its Madrid office at Calle Alfonso XII, 36. This move marks the firm’s first independent office in Europe, following its previous association with DLA Piper under the name DLA Piper Martínez Beltrán.
Leading the Madrid office will be partner Felipe Quintero (pictured), who joined the firm in 2018 after 13 years as a partner at Garrigues. Quintero holds a Law degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and a Master’s in Law from Harvard University. He was awarded the Young Jurists Prize by the Garrigues Foundation and the University of Navarra in 2004 and received Legal500’s Best Lawyer in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) in Colombia in January. Quintero is licensed to practice law in both Colombia and Spain.
The expansion into Spain reflects the firm’s strategic evolution and emphasizes its independent identity in the legal sector. The firm’s new name, Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De La Rosa, underscores the unity among partners, a fundamental pillar of the firm’s ethos. Managing partner Camilo Martínez Beltrán notes, “Together, we go further,” emphasizing the collaborative spirit that defines the firm’s approach.
Felipe Quintero, Director of the Madrid office, explains, “Our goal in Spain is not to compete in the local legal market but to support Spanish law firms with their interests and service offerings in Colombia while generating opportunities for our firm. With this step into Spain, we aim to establish a prominent presence in Europe, facilitating European interests and investments in Colombia, and vice versa.”
Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De La Rosa, currently comprising 150 professionals, recorded a turnover of approximately $18 million last year, with plans to reach $20 million in the current fiscal year. This expansion underscores the firm’s commitment to strengthening transatlantic investments and commercial relationships between Colombia and Europe.
