HSF appoints Miguel Ángel Barroso as of counsel

Herbert Smith Freehills has appointed Miguel Ángel Barroso, until now a senior associate in the public law, data protection and emerging technologies practice, as new of counsel in the Madrid office. His appointment, effective May 1, is part of the firm annual global promotions, which this year have resulted in a total of 27 new partners and 34 of counsel/PSCs in the firm’s offices around the world.

Barroso, who joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2017 from another international firm, has extensive experience in advising large companies, investment banks, private equity firms and public administration in regulated sectors (energy, infrastructure, TMT, healthcare and transport) on public/regulatory law in its different branches and specialties, FDI, data protection and privacy, Emerging Technologies and Digital Law, as well as in arbitration and related litigation.

Throughout his professional career, he has combined the legal profession with his teaching role as a professor in several specialized programs and master’s degrees, such as the master’s degree in access to the legal profession at the Rey Juan Carlos University, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Villanueva University Center.

Mr. Barroso holds a law degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and has completed an advanced program in Public and Private International Law at Oriel College, Oxford and in regulated sectors at the Instituto de Empresa. He has also completed an advanced program in corporate law at the Centro de Estudios Financieros.
